Rhinoplasty
BEFORE AFTER BEFORE AFTER

Rhinoplasty is the operation that changes the appearance of the nose. The size and shape of your nose is determined by heredity and formed by the bones and cartilages that are underneath your nasal skin. The nose's appearance can be altered by changing the size and position of these bones and cartilages. If you are considering a rhinoplasty, you should look at your nose in the mirror carefully and try to determine what parts you find unsatisfactory and what you would like to have changed. Dr. Puneet Pasricha can help you evaluate your nose, but try it yourself first. Some common complaints are a bulbous round tip, a hump along the bridge of the nose, or a nose that is too long, too wide, too droopy.

Why all the attention to the nose anyway?
The nose is the major aesthetic unit of the face. It is right in the middle, and it is also the feature that is the easiest to alter surgically. The nose contributes to the face's strength, its femininity or masculinity, its character.

Breathing through the nose
The nasal septum is the partition between the left and right sides of your nose. If the septum is not exactly in the middle, it may partially or totally block the airway on one or both sides of your nose. During your rhinoplasty, Dr. Puneet Pasricha will attempt to correct any deviations or obstructions present in your nasal septum to improve your breathing. If you do not desire a change in the external appearance of your nose, but just want correction of a breathing problem, you may need an operation called a septoplasty.

Will there be any scars?
All incisions are up inside the nose and are completely invisible. Only one external small incision is usually placed across the base of your nose, the part called the columella. This incision fades extremely well, and is just about invisible when healing is complete.

When will I be able to go home?
After surgery, we will watch you for about 4 hours, and then you will be able to go home with your responsible attendant.

Who actually performs the surgery?
For all of the operations Dr. Puneet Pasricha performs, he does the entire procedure himself, from start to finish.

The Risks of Surgery
The improvement in appearance which we strive to achieve does not come without risk. These may range from the small bother of prolonged swelling or a minor wound infection to a serious tragedy such as a cardiac arrest and death. No operation is entirely predictable. Some people, because of their anatomy, can get more improvement than others. Sometimes we can't make all the changes that we desire, and rarely the patient may be left with a problem that wasn't anticipated at all.If a complication in the results or healing of your operation does occur, touch up surgery can often improve the problem. This discussion is not meant to scare you away from surgery. Every year thousands of facial plastic operations are performed with great safety on persons of all ages.Rhinoplasty is the operation that changes the appearance of the nose.
